Our Union

CHCA District 1199, NUHHCE is a union of people who work as nurses, PCTs, laboratory technologists, home care workers, housekeepers, psychiatric techs, and nuclear medicine technologists, among nearly 200 other job titles. Our members provide quality care while never failing to represent themselves and their coworkers with strength and professionalism. 

CHCA District 1199 is proudly affiliated with the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees (NUHHCE), the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and the AFL-CIO. Nationally there are over 1.2 million members of AFSCME including 360,000 health care employees, over 10,000 of whom are doctors and dentists, and 76,000 of whom are nurses.

CHCA District 1199, NUHHCE was founded August 25, 1976 by Mary Lou Millar, a registered nurse fed up with management policies that unfairly and negatively affected her and her coworkers.
